Jakarta, Indonesia, 8 August 2024 – ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (Indonesia) or PT STT GDC Indonesia, a leading data centre services provider headquartered in Singapore, and the Indonesian Internet Service Provider Association (APJII) today announced a strategic partnership to expand Indonesia Internet Exchange’s (IIX) coverage in Greater Jakarta with an IIX node in STT Jakarta 1, aiming to make it the focal point of internet traffic exchange in this region. Through this collaboration, both parties will jointly address the connectivity needs of customers. IIX is one of Indonesia’s largest internet exchanges. The signing ceremony took place today at STT JKT 1, STT GDC Indonesia’s first data centre facility in Cikarang, Bekasi, Jawa Barat.

The partnership aims to support the growth of Indonesia’s digital economy by building a robust ecosystem with local technology and connectivity partners. PT STT GDC Indonesia and APJII will collaborate to address the needs of customers within the data centre campus. An Internet Exchange serves as a nexus where multiple networks – including those of Internet Service Providers (ISPs), Enterprise Providers, and Content Providers – converge to exchange IP traffic directly. Connecting to an IX point of presence (PoP) will enable customers to shorten their path to transit from other participating networks, reducing latency, improving round – trip time and potentially reducing costs.

“As the digital economy in Indonesia matures, reliable digital infrastructure and resilient network connections become increasingly critical. Maximising network performance is essential to create a seamless user experience for our customers and their customers,” said Hendrikus Hendra Gozali, Country Head, PT STT GDC Indonesia. “STT GDC is very pleased to be working with APJII and its members to enhance its interconnection links, which will significantly boost the efficiency and performance of internet connectivity in the region,” he continued.

APJII is a long–established association with over 1,000 internet providers and more than 3,000 users. The association provides strategic services to its members, including access to IIX, domain management, business assistance and industry–related insights1. These services support members in providing quality internet services to Indonesian society, in line with the Indonesian government’s 2045 Indonesia Digital Vision2.

“We believe that reliable connectivity, infrastructure and technology are the primary foundations of digital business in Indonesia,” said Muhammad Arif, Chairman of APJII. “We look forward to partnering with PT STT GDC Indonesia as we share the same vision of supporting high-quality internet services for Indonesians. The IIX at STT GDC will serve as a vital hub for developing a carrier-neutral interconnection ecosystem in Indonesia, meeting the high bandwidth and low latency requirements of today’s demand,” he added.
